Competition, Recital, Pageant, Camp and Festival Dates

Students: In order to participate in competitions, recitals, and festivals, your piece must be fully memorized 6 weeks in advance. You must also play the piece(s) by memory and up to full tempo in 1-2 master classes and give 10 performances for anyone other than your immediate family before the event. If these rules are not met, we will have to wait until the next competition and festival for you to participate in. So, look at the dates and make your weekly goals are set for 6 weeks prior to festivals, competitions, and recitals. Thank you!

  • Encore Junior Solo Festival (Grades K-6, usually the first or second weekend of February)
  • Encore Senior Solo Festival (Grades 7-12, usually the third or fourth weekend of February)
  • UMTA Concerto Competition (held in SLC, usually during February. Materials and competition all happen in February. See website: http://www.utahmta.org/cgi-bin/umta.cgi?action=view_page&page=student_concerto)
  • Baroque Music Competition for High School students (grades 9-12). Play a Baroque piece, $500 award: http://www.utahbaroque.org/ube/competition/

  • Heber Valley Piano Festival (end of February). No website, but I'll inform everyone at lessons.
  • American Protege Music Festival: http://www.americanprotege.com/index.html (solo and concerto), play in Carnegie Hall if you win this! 
March:
  • Encore Theory Festival (held in different weekends in March). For this festival, all practice packets will need to be completed two weeks in advance to the festival so we can go over anything needed in lessons.
  • Con Brio Music Festival in Park City (applications and competition in March. See website:  www.con-brio-music-festival.com)

  • Scholarship Auditions for 7th grade students or higher for Encore. You have to participate in all the events to be eligible.

  • Studio Competitions (YouTube, Technique, Practice, etc.)
  • State AIM testing for teachers who are UMTA members. I am a UMTA member, so you can be tested on theory, performance, ear-training, and more!
  • Miss Utah Teen Pageant. SO many contestants showcase their talent of playing the piano. Maybe you can be the next Utah Teen!  http://www.missuoteen.com/index.html You have to be 13 or older to participate. 
August:
  • Studio Recital in Daynes (from the July competitions) in SLC.

  • UVU Piano Festival (deadline for sign-up usually end of June or early July)
